Audius (AUDIO) is a decentralised music-streaming protocol, live since 2020, that lets artists publish music directly to fans. It aims to increase artists’ share of streaming income by reducing intermediaries. AUDIO is used for governance, node-operator staking, and rewards for artists, fans, and curators.
Recently rebranded to Open Audio Protocol, AUDIO carries around 7% annual inflation, faces dominant streaming competitors, and trades far below its high. In India, AUDIO is treated as a Virtual Digital Asset (VDA) under the Income-tax Act, so you can legally buy, hold, and sell it.
FIU-IND registration, ISO/IEC certification, and offline cold storage help keep customer assets secure.
Trade AUDIO anytime, with UPI and IMPS deposits typically credited within minutes.

A compliant platform can provide tools and guides that help first-time investors get started with Audius.

AUDIO adds roughly 7% new supply every year to fund staking rewards. Holders who do not stake are steadily diluted, and much of the advertised staking yield is simply this new issuance.

The platform is genuinely used but has struggled to turn streaming into steady, meaningful revenue. Until it does, the token’s long-term value rests more on expectations than on proven cash flow.

Audius competes with huge, well-funded mainstream streaming services, and AUDIO trades far below its all-time high. Research the platform’s real, current usage before you invest in Audius.
Follow these 4 simple steps to start investing in Audius (AUDIO) in India:
Create your account and complete KYC.
Transfer INR via UPI, IMPS, NEFT or RTGS.
Open the AUDIO market and check the live price.
Enter the INR amount and confirm your order.
Before buying AUDIO, add INR to your CoinDCX account via UPI, IMPS, NEFT, or RTGS.
Yes. Audius (AUDIO) is treated as a Virtual Digital Asset under the Income-tax Act, so buying, holding, and selling are allowed, though it is not legal tender. India regulates crypto as a taxable, speculative asset, and platforms serving Indian users must be registered with FIU-IND under anti-money-laundering rules.
To buy Audius for the first time, sign up on CoinDCX, complete KYC with your PAN and Aadhaar, deposit INR through UPI or IMPS, then open the AUDIO market and confirm your order. Most first-time buyers complete all four steps on the same day.
Add INR to your CoinDCX account by choosing UPI as the payment method, entering the amount, and approving the request in your UPI app. Once the balance reflects, open the AUDIO market, enter your INR amount, and confirm. UPI deposits are usually credited within minutes.
You do not need to buy a whole AUDIO, which has a very low unit price. It supports fractional investing, so a small INR order buys many tokens. The exact per-order minimum is shown on a compliant CoinDCX order screen before you confirm.
Yes. Because AUDIO has a very low unit price, ₹100 buys a large number of tokens. Open the app, search for Audius, tap Buy, enter the rupee amount, and confirm. Given how speculative it is, only use money you can afford to lose.
AUDIO trades directly against the rupee on FIU-IND registered Indian exchanges, so no stablecoin conversion is needed. Judge any venue on three points: FIU-IND registration under the PMLA, a direct INR pair, and published custody practices such as cold storage and Proof of Reserves.
Buying and holding AUDIO is not taxed. Selling or swapping your tokens triggers a flat 30% tax plus 4% cess on profits, resulting in an effective tax rate of 31.2% under the Income-tax Act, 2025. Additionally, a 1% TDS is deducted from the total trade value upon transfer under Section 393(1) of the Act. Crypto losses cannot be set off against other income. Report gains in Schedule VDA and confirm your position with a chartered accountant.
Audius has a real, working product, an artist-friendly model, genuine token utility, and notable partnerships, which many crypto projects lack. Against that, its token is inflationary at around 7% a year, its monetisation is unproven, it faces dominant mainstream streaming rivals, and it trades far below its high. This makes it a higher-risk asset, so weigh both sides against your own goals and risk tolerance, and treat any decision as your own.
Audius is a music-streaming service built on blockchain rather than run by a single company. The aim is to let artists connect directly with fans and keep a larger share of the value, without labels or intermediaries in between. The AUDIO token ties the system together: node operators stake it to run the network, artists and fans earn it as rewards, and holders use it to vote on how the protocol develops.
To pay the node operators and reward users, Audius creates new AUDIO tokens each year, at a rate of roughly 7%. This steadily increases the total supply. If demand for the token grows faster than this new supply, the price can still rise; but if demand is flat or falling, that constant new issuance dilutes existing holders and can weigh on the price. It also means staking rewards are partly just newly minted tokens rather than real earnings, so the headline yield should not be treated as free profit.
