API3 is an established decentralised “oracle” project, running since 2020, that brings real-world data such as prices onto blockchains. It uses “first-party” oracles, where providers run feeds directly without middlemen. API3 is used for governance, staking, and as collateral that helps guarantee the data. It has real usage, but faces a much larger oracle network.
Its staking is inflationary and doubles as collateral, so treat it as a higher-risk asset. In India, API3 is treated as a Virtual Digital Asset (VDA) under the Income-tax Act, so you can legally buy, hold, and sell it.
FIU-IND registration, ISO/IEC certification, and offline cold storage help keep customer assets secure.
Trade API3 anytime, with UPI and IMPS deposits typically credited within minutes.

CoinDCX provides tools and guides that help first-time investors get started with API3.

The oracle market is led by one much larger, entrenched network. API3 has a genuinely different design, but winning significant market share from an established leader is difficult and far from guaranteed.

API3’s staking rewards come partly from newly created tokens, diluting non-stakers, and staked tokens double as collateral that can cover valid data-feed losses. Staking carries real risk, not just reward.

API3’s worth depends on more applications using its data feeds, and it trades well below its past high. Research the network’s real, current usage before you invest in API3 coin.
Follow these 4 simple steps to start investing in API3 in India:
Create your account and complete KYC.
Transfer INR via UPI, IMPS, NEFT or RTGS.
Open the API3 market and check the live price.
Enter the INR amount and confirm your order.
Before buying API3, add INR to your CoinDCX account via UPI, IMPS, NEFT, or RTGS.
Yes. API3 is treated as a Virtual Digital Asset under the Income-tax Act, so buying, holding, and selling are allowed, though it is not legal tender. India regulates crypto as a taxable, speculative asset, and platforms serving Indian users must be registered with FIU-IND under anti-money-laundering rules.
To buy API3 for the first time, sign up on CoinDCX, complete KYC with your PAN and Aadhaar, deposit INR through UPI or IMPS, then open the API3 market and confirm your order. Most first-time buyers complete all four steps on the same day.

You do not need to buy a whole API3. It is divisible into small units, so a small INR order buys a fraction of a token. The exact per-order minimum is shown on the CoinDCX order screen before you confirm.
Yes. Because API3 is divisible, you can start with as little as ₹100. Open the app, search for API3, tap Buy, enter the rupee amount, and confirm. The order fills at the live rate shown on screen.
API3 trades directly against the rupee on FIU-IND registered Indian exchanges, so no stablecoin conversion is needed. Judge any venue on three points: FIU-IND registration under the PMLA, a direct INR pair, and published custody practices such as cold storage and Proof of Reserves.
Buying and holding API3 is not taxed. Selling or swapping your tokens triggers a flat 30% tax plus 4% cess on profits, resulting in an effective tax rate of 31.2% under the Income-tax Act, 2025. Additionally, a 1% TDS is deducted from the total trade value upon transfer under Section 393(1) of the Act. Crypto losses cannot be set off against other income. Report gains in Schedule VDA and confirm your position with a chartered accountant.
API3 stands out for a genuinely different first-party-oracle design, real usage across many chains, and an OEV model that returns value to the apps using its data. Against that, it competes with a dominant oracle network, its staking rewards are inflationary, staked tokens double as collateral that can be slashed to cover losses, and it trades well below its high. This makes it a higher-risk asset, so weigh both sides and treat any decision as your own.
Smart contracts cannot fetch outside data, like the price of gold or a stock, on their own; they rely on “oracles” to deliver it. API3 provides these data feeds, but with a twist: instead of using middlemen to relay data, the original data providers run the feeds themselves through API3’s Airnode software, which aims to be more transparent and reliable. It also runs a system called OEV that captures value normally taken by trading bots during data updates and returns most of it to the apps using the feeds. The API3 token governs this network, secures it through staking, and serves as collateral backing the feeds.
Staking API3 means locking your tokens into a shared pool that governs the network and earns rewards, which come partly from usage fees and partly from newly created tokens. Importantly, this same pool acts as collateral: if a data feed fails and a valid claim is paid out, staked tokens can be used to cover it, so staking carries a real risk of loss, not just reward. On top of that, the inflationary portion of rewards means people who hold without staking are gradually diluted. So staking can be rewarding, but you should understand both the collateral risk and the inflation before committing.
