Circle has set 16 September as the public launch date for Arc, a blockchain built for financial markets, with eleven institutions running the network alongside it. Transaction fees on Arc are paid in USDC rather than a separate volatile token, card networks and remittance firms are among the validators, and BlackRock is expected to bring a tokenized fund onto the network. More than 100 banks, asset managers and DeFi protocols are already building on it in private testing.

Circle Confirms 16 September Arc Mainnet Launch

As per the press release, Circle’s founding validator cohort is BlackRock, DTCC, Galaxy, Global Payments, ICE, Mastercard, MoneyGram, SBI Group, Standard Chartered, Sumitomo Corporation and Visa, with Circle making twelve. Between them they cover asset management, card networks, remittances and securities clearing, while ICE owns the New York Stock Exchange. Validators are the participants that confirm and secure transactions, and on Arc they are the same firms the network is built to serve.

Why Stablecoin Payments Get Simpler on Arc

Every blockchain charges a fee to process a transaction, and that fee normally has to be paid in the network’s own token, whose price moves daily. Arc charges its fees in USDC instead, the dollar-pegged stablecoin Circle issues, so a payments company can price a transfer in dollars and know what it will cost. That removes a treasury problem that has kept many businesses off public blockchains entirely.

Four of the validators are payments businesses in their own right. Visa and Mastercard run card networks, MoneyGram handles remittances and Global Payments processes merchant transactions, and all four will be securing the chain. Rain, Thunes and Wirex are expected to route card settlement and cross-border payment flows through Arc from the first day.

Tokenized Real-World Assets Move Closer to Production

BlackRock is expected to deploy BUIDL on Arc, a fund holding cash and short-term government debt that is issued as a token so it can be moved and settled on a blockchain. Investors would be able to subscribe, redeem and put the fund’s assets to work inside one environment, removing a step that has limited tokenized funds so far.

The larger commitment comes from DTCC, which clears and settles most US securities trades. It plans to allow assets it custodies to be tokenized on Arc from the second half of 2027, letting participants settle in stablecoins against those tokenized assets. Circle will also ship tools at launch for issuers wanting to create and manage tokenized assets themselves.

What Arc Changes for Institutional On-Chain Finance

The compliance problem has kept regulated firms at arm’s length from public blockchains for years, because a network confirmed by anonymous participants is difficult to justify to a regulator. Arc answers that by having named, approved institutions run the validators, which is a permissioned arrangement rather than an open one.

What sits on top is not permissioned. Lending and trading protocols including Aave, Morpho and Uniswap are expected to live from day one, so DeFi applications and regulated institutions would share the same network. Standard Chartered, already named as a validator, is exploring a further integration covering custody and foreign exchange alongside BNY, and more than 100 firms are building on the private version.

What Circle Has Not Yet Confirmed

BlackRock is expected to deploy BUIDL rather than confirmed as having done so, and the DTCC connection does not begin until the second half of 2027, roughly eighteen months away. Circle also states that Arc has not been reviewed or approved by any regulator, and that features may be modified, delayed or cancelled without notice.

Before 16 September, the thing to watch is whether the named validators are running nodes on launch day. After it, the measure is payment and settlement volume rather than further announcements, because every transaction on Arc consumes USDC as a fee and ties the stablecoin’s demand to how much the network is actually used.

            FAQs

            1. What is Circle Arc?

Arc is a blockchain built by Circle for payments, settlement and financial markets. It opened to the public on 16 September 2026 and charges transaction fees in USDC rather than a separate network token.

            2. How does Arc help stablecoin payments?

Fees are paid in a dollar-pegged stablecoin, so businesses can price transactions in dollars instead of holding a volatile token to cover costs. Card networks, remittance firms and payment processors are among the network's validators.

            3. Which institutions are validators on Arc?

BlackRock, DTCC, Galaxy, Global Payments, ICE, Mastercard, MoneyGram, SBI Group, Standard Chartered, Sumitomo Corporation and Visa, alongside Circle.

            4. Does the Arc launch affect USDC holders?

The Arc launch affect USDC holders indirectly. Every Arc transaction consumes USDC as a fee, so meaningful activity would create ongoing demand for the stablecoin. Holding USDC itself does not change.
