            • 4. Why did Solana fees hit a record?

Solana network fees have hit a record in SOL terms as on-chain activity surges, and validators have voted to halve the time new issuance takes to reach its floor. The Double Disinflation proposal scraped through by a third of a percentage point, and it cuts staking rewards as sharply as supply.

Why Solana Fees Hit a Record

Solana’s fee generation reached a seven-day average of nearly 9,200 SOL on 27 August, more than 80% above the level three months earlier, or roughly $955,000 a day.

Rising usage is behind the increase. Non-vote transactions, which represent real user activity rather than validator housekeeping, hit a record 191 million on a seven-day basis against 88 million a year earlier, up about 117%. Jito validator tips averaged 2,073 SOL a day last week.

What the Solana Disinflation Vote Changes

Solana issues new SOL on a schedule that shrinks each year until it reaches a terminal rate of 1.5%. SGP-0002, the Double Disinflation proposal, doubles that shrinkage from 15% to 30% a year, leaving the floor unchanged but reaching it in 2.8 years instead of 5.7.

The estimated effect is 18.9 million fewer SOL over six years. Against a circulating supply of about 585 million, that is roughly 3.2%, or a little over half a percent each year, so the change is meaningful but smaller than the headline figure implies.

For scale, the fee run-rate annualises to roughly 3.36 million SOL, marginally more than the average annual issuance being removed, so whether fees hold that pace is the question underneath the trade.

How Close the Solana Vote Actually Was

SGP-0002 finished at 67.001% against a 66.667% threshold, a margin of 0.334 percentage points, with 176.29 million SOL in favour and 66.19 million against. Turnout reached 60.7% across 1,326 validators, the highest in Solana’s history.

The proposal was losing in the final hour before large holders shifted position. Two measures shared the ballot, and the Solana Constitution passed at 86% while a fee-burning proposal that would have lifted daily burns twelvefold failed at 53.9%. One detail matters more than the margin. SGP-0002 is a governance mandate rather than a live protocol change, and the implementation, SIMD-0550, must still be shipped by client teams and activated on-chain, so the issuance schedule is unchanged.

What Lower Issuance Means for Solana Staking Rewards

Lower issuance means lower staking rewards, and yields are projected to fall from roughly 5.25% to 2.25% by year three, a relative cut of about 57%. That pressures operators who lean on inflation income rather than fees.

Estimates point to around 30 validators turning unprofitable within three years, mostly smaller independent operators, though ordinary users should notice no difference in network speed or costs.

Solana Price Today and Key Levels to Watch

SOL trades near $103.80 on 1 September, up roughly 7% on the week, with a market capitalization around $60.7 billion and a seventh-place ranking.

The ceiling is last week’s high near $110.22, about 6% above spot, and clearing it leaves little nearby resistance because SOL is still trading 65% below its record. Beneath the spot, the $100 area marked the 24-hour low and is the first level to hold, followed by the seven-day low near $94.93. The $90 zone matters most, because it capped SOL before this rally and losing it would undo the move.

What SOL Traders Should Watch Next

Nothing about Solana’s supply changes until client teams ship SIMD-0550 and validators switch it on, and neither step has a date. Until that happens the vote is a decision on paper, so the release schedule is the first thing to follow.

Fees are running near 9,200 SOL a day, and holding that pace once the vote fades from the news is what would let validators earn from transactions instead of inflation. Staking participation is around 68%, and a drop there as yields fall toward 2.25% would be the sign the reward cut is starting to bite.

On the charts, SOL is eyeing $110.22, immediate support lies in $100 and $90 is where this rally began.

            FAQs

            1. Does the Solana disinflation vote cut SOL supply immediately?

The Solana disinflation vote does not change SOL supply immediately, because SGP-0002 is a governance directive rather than a live protocol change. The faster schedule applies only once SIMD-0550 is implemented by client teams and activated on-chain, so issuance continues on the old path for now.

            2. How much will Solana staking rewards fall?

Projections put Solana staking yields at roughly 2.25% by year three, down from about 5.25% today, a relative reduction of around 57%. Actual returns vary by validator commission and performance, so stakers may see figures either side of that range.

            3. Is lower SOL issuance bullish for the price?

Lower SOL issuance reduces future dilution by around 18.9 million tokens over six years, roughly 3.2% of circulating supply. Analysts caution the effect is gradual and partly offset by weaker staking incentives, making it a slow structural change rather than an immediate catalyst.

            4. Why did Solana fees hit a record?

Solana fees hit a record because network usage rose sharply, with non-vote transactions reaching 191 million over seven days against 88 million a year earlier. That lifted fee generation to a seven-day average near 9,200 SOL, over 80% above the level three months ago.
