EU Lawmakers Drop Bitcoin ‘Ban’ From Draft of Crypto Regulations
Last week, the Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) bill was proposed to the European Parliament. A provision of this bill would have made it illegal for crypto services to deal in coins based on proof-of-work—the consensus mechanism Bitcoin and Ethereum use to “mine” new currency and secure their networks. Because of this, the vote for this bill was delayed.
Stefan Berger, who is spearheading the MiCA bill, acknowledged on March 2nd, that this provision of the bill has been removed entirely, and the vote has yet to be rescheduled. MiCA has the ability to change the way people think about bitcoin in Europe. It would provide a regulatory framework for crypto assets across the European Union, something the United States and other countries are still working on.

FC Barcelona Explores New Opportunities in Metaverse and NFTs
FC Barcelona, a Spanish football team, is no stranger to crypto. And they are now gearing up to be the first big sports organization to create its own crypto coin. Joan Laporta, the club’s president, recently announced at the Mobile World Congress 2022 that the club would prefer to create its own crypto coin to “survive financially.”
According to Laporta, the club has turned down cryptocurrency firm offers for jersey collaborations since they are working on their own metaverse activation. However, the fact that prominent players like Polkadot and Binance are in talks with the sport’s largest clubs like Barca is encouraging for crypto engagement in general.
