Only professional players could make a living by playing video games in the traditional video gaming industry. However, the integration of blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens into video gaming has allowed players to earn money not just by defeating other players, but also by creating characters, lending assets to other players, and even renting out land within the game. And Axie Infinity is one of the most well-known blockchain games, with a P2E (Play to Earn) business model.
What is Axie Infinity?
Axie Infinity is a blockchain-based game that provides players full ownership of the in-game items they collect. Vietnamese gaming startup Sky Mavis created it in 2018.
Axie was inspired by the popular video game franchise Pokemon. It includes a fairly versatile gameplay that allows users to gather a variety of digital pets called Axies. They are reared, bred, and eventually battled against one another in the Axie ecosystem.
The Axie Infinity Game Tokens
Before you begin playing the game, you should know about the two game tokens: Axie Infinity Shard (AXS) and Small Love Potion (SLP).
Small Love Potion (SLP): is the token you receive as a reward for every battle won. You can use it to breed Axie creatures and then sell or auction them on the Axie Infinity Marketplace.
Axie Infinity Shard (AXS): is an ERC-20 utility token awarded to the top players across all 19 seasons of the game. Holders of AXS have voting rights. They can use their AXS to win prizes and gain access to other in-game features by staking them. You can also invest in the AXS token through a crypto investment app.

The Axie Infinity Land: Lunacia
The Axie Infinity Universe is called Lunacia, which is a 301*301 grid. The land is divided into plots represented by each square and minted as non-fungible tokens or NFTs. Players can buy, lease, and develop this land. There are 4 main types of land in Lunacia – Savannah, Forest, Arctic and Mystic.
How to Play Axie Infinity?
You must first obtain three Axies from the Axie Marketplace to play the game. Each Axie has unique characteristics that determine their battle role. Before purchasing any Axies, you should know the mechanism of the battle and the fundamentals of each Axie:
1. Axie Infinity Battle Mechanics
The Axie battle system is a turn-based card game in which your squad of three Axies must eliminate all opponents in order to win. Each turn, a player must play cards carefully in order to increase their chances of winning.
2. Understanding Axie Infinity Creatures
Axies are fantasy animals that can be battled, collected, and raised by players.
Stats:
Each Axie has four stats:
- HP: is the amount of damage your Axie can endure before being knocked unconscious.
- Morale: increases your odds of striking your opponent with a critical hit.
- Skill: the more skillful, the more damage your Axie inflicts.
- Speed: Each round’s attack sequence is determined by speed. The fastest Axie is the first to attack every round.
These stats are dependent on two other factors: the Axie’s class and body parts.
Class:
Axies are divided into nine classes: reptiles, plants, dusk, aquatic, birds, dawn, beasts, and bugs. Each class has its own set of strengths and weaknesses when it comes to competing with other classes. When determining damage, the attacking move’s card class is compared to the defender’s Axie class.
Body Parts:
Eyes, ears, horn, mouth, back, and tail are the six body parts of an Axie. Each body part adds stats depending on which class the body part belongs to.
3. How To Buy Axies?
Axie game assets exist as NFT tokens to enable full ownership of assets to players. To get your first Axies, follow these steps:
- Create an Axie Infinity Account
- Create a Ronin Wallet. Sky Mavis, the company behind Axie Infinity, has created Ronin. Ronin is a sidechain where Axie’s activities and transactions now take place. You need the Ronin Wallet to interact with Ronin.
- Connect your Axie Infinity and Ronin Wallet by clicking on “Attach Ronin to Account ” option under the Activate Ronin Wallet box, in the middle of the Dashboard.
- Go to the Axie Infinity Marketplace to see all of the Axies that are currently for sale, and purchase your first 3 Axies.
- Download the application and start playing!

How to Earn on Axie Infinity?
The most common way for new players to earn on Axie Infinity is to actually play the game. As you progress through the game, you receive the Smooth Love Potion(SLP) in-game token. The simplest strategy to gain SLP is to:
- Complete your Daily Quest: To get 25 SLP, complete your daily check-in, which includes 10 Adventure mode levels, and 5 Arena matches.
- Adventure Mode (Player v.s Environment): Earn up to 50 SLP per day by completing PvE missions called ruins.
- Arena Mode (Player vs. Player): You’ll need to spend your energy to fight in Arena battles. Your rating will determine how much SLP you can win.
You have to be strategically attentive in order to win battles and earn these SLPs, else you could lose your invested funds. SLPs are essential while breeding Axies, and are in high demand. So, you can cash out or trade the SLPs you earned on the Axie Marketplace.
However, there are four other ways that you can explore, to earn on Axie Infinity:
1. Breeding and Selling Axies
When two Axies breed, the result is a new Axie with a different collection of stats, body parts, and abilities, making it completely different from any other Axie. This is why, Axies are valued as non-fungible tokens.
After you breed a new Axie, you could either use it to play your battles, or sell it on the market. The Axies’ quality, such as whether it has well-balanced stats or a strong ability synergy, determines its worth.
The better the stats, the higher is its selling price. Sold for 300ETH, the most expensive Axie NFT was a triple Mystic, named Angel. Its value was almost $120K at the time of sale.

2. Creating an Axie Scholarship Program
Establish your own Axie Scholarship programme, where you give some of your Axies to other players so that other skilled players can play for free, on behalf of you. Such agreements have a 70/30, 60/40, or 50/50 reward share, providing a passive income. It’s a win-win situation for gamers who don’t have the time to play and even for those who don’t have enough money to buy their own Axies.
3. Investing in Lunacia Land Plots
An upcoming feature in Axie Infinity is the option to invest in the various land plot NFTs of the Lunacia Universe. As a land-owner, you can design your plots to produce profitable resources, battle monsters in, provide facilities, and serve as dungeon access points.
Lunacia land plots, like real estate, can be rented out to other players or sold when their value rises. Alliances with other players can be formed to pool rare resources, join land plots, and form guilds.
4. Staking Your Axie Infinity Shards (AXSs)
The AXS token will soon be utilised by participants for staking in order to claim rewards. Simply defined, staking means locking up your AXS tokens to maintain Axie Infinity’s blockchain network’s operations in exchange for newly mined AXS.
