XRPL news: XLS-86 Firewall for Scam Protection
The developers of the XRP Ledger are now preparing for a significant security upgrade with the proposed XLS-86 Firewall, designed to block scams and protect assets. Vet, one of XRPL’s dUNL validators, has spotlighted the proposal, describing it as a safeguard against fraudulent transactions that have drained millions from users.
If adopted, the firewall could become a unified line of defense, flagging risky addresses before payments go through. Wallets may display warnings, while exchanges and node operators could block or limit flagged activity. Future iterations might even leverage machine learning to detect scam patterns. This push follows the compromised xrpl.js incident earlier this year, which underscored the need for stronger in-protocol defenses.

XRP Ledger Version 2.5.0: A Game-Changer for Enterprise Use
In June 2025, Ripple launched XRPL 2.5.0, a major upgrade that expands institutional and enterprise use cases. Key to this update is the XLS-85 amendment, which allows XRPL’s escrow system to handle third-party issued tokens, such as stablecoins. This could pave way for broader integrations with banking partners and corporate ecosystems.
Another powerful addition is XLS-56, allowing developers to complete to eight transactions into a single command. This not only improves efficiency but also reduces the network failure rate, previously estimated at 30%, for complex transaction flows. But this time, for all the right reasons.
Payments on the network have hit record highs, signaling a surge in real-world utility just as Ripple’s long-running legal battle with the SEC nears its end. With on-chain activity booming and legal clarity finally within reach, XRP is gaining massive bullish momentum in 2025. Hence, with this, the XRP price is also expected to gain ground, which may propel the highs above the pivotal resistance.
New Compliance Upgrade on XRPL
Apart from version 2.5.0, the XRP Ledger has recently activated a credentials amendment, revealed by validator Vet. This feature allows credentials such as KYC and AML checks to be issued and verified directly on-chain, tied to decentralized identities. Ripple engineer Kenny explained that the upgrade streamlines compliance by reducing repeated verifications and lowering privacy risks.
The credentials amendment forms part of a broader push toward permissioned domains and DEXs, positioning XRPL as a compliance-ready platform for institutions. This complements Ripple’s vision of becoming a leader in tokenization, a market it believes could account for 10% of global assets by 2030.
Validator Migration Deadline & mXRP Debut September 2025
On September 23, the XRP Ledger is gearing for another critical update dubbed the validator migration deadline. Here, validators must transition from the old XRPL Foundation’s Unique Node List (dUNL) to the new list managed by the Inclusive Financial Technology Foundation by September 30, 2025. Those failing to migrate risk losing access to trusted validator lists, with full deprecation of the old UNL set for January 18, 2026. Validator Vet highlighted on X the urgency of the switch, noting that non-compliant nodes may face serious disruption.
Meanwhile, the ecosystem is also seeing innovation on the DeFi front. Axelar Network has launched mXRP, a liquid-staked token offering up to 10% APY for XRP holders. Developed with Midas and Interop Labs, mXRP is issued on the XRPL EVM via audited smart contracts and connects to more than 80 blockchains using Axelar’s cross-chain infrastructure. This extends XRP’s utility by enabling yield strategies and cross-chain liquidity, marking another milestone in its growing DeFi footprint.
Smart Escrow Devnet Update September 24, 2025
On September 24, Ripple confirm the successful update to the Smart Escrow Devnet, the sixth version of the feature. Smart Escrows are programmable escrow contracts on XRPL that let traders automate complex trading conditions. They’re almost ready for mainnet launch after this testing phase completes.
We have updated the Smart Escrow Devnet to our sixth monthly release. We are essentially feature-complete and moving onto the review and testing phase.

The new release includes enhanced pricing structure, that makes small, simple escrows cheap while larger, more complex ones pay proportionally more for network resources. For instance, creating a Smart Escrow now costs 100 XRP drops + 5 drops per byte of code. Larger escrows need extra reserves (1 additional reserve per 500 bytes beyond the first 500).
XRP Ledger Sees Unprecedented Growth
The XRPL has been quietly growing behind the scenes, but 2025 is proving to be its breakout year. According to the data from Dune Analytics, the weekly payment surged from 1.5 million in 2023 to over 8 million in 2025, which reflects a jaw-dropping surge of over 430%. Besides, the number of transactions has risen from a single digit to over 300,000.

Moreover, nearly 1 million transactions were processed on July 01, out of the total 1.53 million transactions. Payments now make up over 60% of all network activity, and more than 2800 new accounts are being created daily. The reason behind the diving growth could be Ripple’s aggressive expansion, specifically in the Middle East, and the increasing demand for last, low-cost cross-border transactions.
Ripple’s Legal Battle Ends!
After years of back and forth with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), the long-running Ripple vs SEC lawsuit has come to a decisive conclusion. On 7th August 2025, both parties told the court they would drop their appeals, closing a case that had cast a long shadow over the crypto world since 2020. The SEC had accused Ripple of breaking securities laws with its XRP token sales. Now, with both sides walking away and agreeing to pay their own legal fees, the legal fight is over. The 2023 ruling that fined Ripple $125 million will stand. The market responded instantly. Post announcement, XRP price jumped 5 per cent and was trading near $3.27 by press time, signalling relief and optimism after years of legal uncertainty.
