Moonriver (MOVR) crypto price is up 158.92% over the past week. Currently, MOVR trades at $2.22 on 24-hour volume of $195.95 million, which rose 562%, and a week ago the token changed hands at $0.8606. The move lands as the migration period that carried MOVR off Kusama and onto Base came to an end, and the more useful question for anyone holding the token is not why it rallied but where their tokens now sit.
Moonriver Moved MOVR to Base and Shut Two Networks
Moonriver launched in 2021 as Moonbeam’s canary network on Kusama, an Ethereum-compatible environment where code was tested before it reached Polkadot. Moonbeam announced on 7 July that MOVR would migrate to Base as a standard ERC-20 token at a 1:1 ratio, four days after announcing the same move for Glimmer (GLMR), Moonbeam’s own token. Both networks, Moonriver on Kusama and Moonbeam on Polkadot, are being wound down as part of the shift.
The route ran in two steps and carried no fees. An XCM transfer moved MOVR from Moonriver to xcMOVR on Moonbeam, then a bridge locked the xcMOVR and relayed it to Base, where MOVR now lives at contract 0x43fEB74608334DDa8c1a6500D185cFC3Ea962B83.

Moonriver Kept the MOVR Bridge Open Until 30 September
When Moonbeam published the move from Kusama to Base in July, it set 31 July as the deadline for holders to bridge their tokens. The project then announced on 29 September that the Moonriver migration period would end the following day, with the cutoff reported at 12:00 UTC on 30 September. They also said valid claims submitted inside this window would be processed.
MOVR Daily Volume Is Seven Times Its Market Cap
Market capitalization is $27.8 million and 24-hour volume is $195.95 million, a volume-to-market-cap ratio of 704.45%. Turning over seven times the value of the asset in a day means the order book is being cleared and refilled repeatedly, and that is what makes a 159% weekly move possible on a token this size.
The capital needed to produce a 159% move in a $27.8 million token is small measured against the wider market, and the capital needed to reverse it is the same size. MOVR ranks 592nd by market capitalization, which is the part of the picture a percentage gain hides.

Moonriver’s Supply Is Uncapped and 99% Circulating
MOVR carries no maximum supply. Circulating supply is 12.48 million against total supply of 12.59 million, so 99% of what exists already trades, and a fully diluted valuation of $28.03 million sits almost level with the $27.8 million market capitalization. No unlock schedule is waiting to hit the market.
What an uncapped supply means from here is an open question. MOVR’s issuance was tied to a network that is being retired, and Moonbeam has not published what the supply policy looks like on Base. Until it does, no maximum supply is a line on a data page rather than a schedule anyone can plan around.
The MOVR Whale Data Cannot Tell Buying From Bridging
A figure repeated widely this week says balances held by the top 100 addresses on one tracked contract rose by more than 11%, which is being read as whales buying MOVR. It is attributed to Nansen, and the published version names no chain, no contract address, no time period and no date.
MOVR existed in three places during the migration: native on Moonriver, as xcMOVR on Moonbeam, and as the new ERC-20 on Base. A large holder bridging tokens from the old chain to the new one makes the Base balance go up without buying a single token. Until someone names the contract that was tracked, that 11% cannot be read as accumulation.
What the Moonriver Wind-Down Means for MOVR Holders
MOVR left in a personal wallet after the deadline sits on a network that is being retired. Moonbeam’s own announcement warns that once a chain winds down, funds left in onchain protocols may become permanently inaccessible. Anyone holding MOVR in a wallet they control, who has not bridged it, should check Moonbeam’s official channels before taking any action.
Tokens held on an exchange are a different case entirely. The deadline applied only to self-custodied MOVR. Exchanges migrated their users’ balances themselves at the same 1:1 rate, with holdings updating automatically and trading staying open throughout, so holders there needed to take no action at all.
