Over the past couple of years, as increasing numbers of investors are turning towards digital assets, crypto mining is also becoming more and more popular and competitive. The four key factors determining the profitability of crypto mining include hardware efficiency, mining difficulty, electricity prices, and market prices. Whereas some coins are mined using GPUs, others need ASICs.

Join us as we explore the top 10 cryptos to mine in 2026. We shall also take a look at their algorithms, mining rewards, hardware requirements, potential profitability, and more!

Best Crypto to Mine in 2026

Here is the list of top cryptos to mine in 2026 based on the reward per block, as well as the hardware and software requirements.

            1) Bitcoin (BTC)

Bitcoin is the largest crypto in the world in terms of market capitalization. Following the 2024 halving, the reward per block became 3.125 BTC. This reward is enticing, but it is important to note that Bitcoin mining is highly competitive. Profitability depends on the use of upscale ASIC hardware and pool mining.

Interestingly, in March 2025, a solo miner successfully mined a block worth approximately $266,000, demonstrating that it’s still possible, albeit with low chances, without enormous resources.

            • Mining rewards per block: 3.125 BTC
            • Algorithm: SHA-256
            • Hardware: ASIC

            Profitability considerations:

            • Equipment Costs: ASIC miners are pricey but required.
            • Electricity Usage: ASIC rig operation is power-hungry.
            • Market Volatility: BTC price fluctuations directly translate to mining ROI.
            • Mining Pools: The majority of miners pool together to share rewards and minimize risk.

Note: Historically, Bitcoin has shown better results in the long-term compared to the short-term.

            2) Monero (XMR)

Monero is a privacy-oriented coin that specializes in secure, anonymous payments. Its RandomX algorithm, which is ASIC-resistant, makes it one of the most available coins for home miners. Anyone with a GPU or CPU can contribute, thereby avoiding the centralization of mining power.

            • Mining rewards per block: 0.6046 XMR
            • Algorithm: RandomX
            • Hardware: CPU or GPU (ASIC-resistant)

            Why miners prefer Monero:

            • Available with simple hardware.
            • Strong decentralization focus within communities.
            • Suitable choice for small-time miners.

            3) Litecoin (LTC)

Litecoin is among the earliest cryptos, designed as a quicker, more efficient relative of Bitcoin. Solo mining LTC on a GPU is unlikely to yield returns, prompting many miners to either purchase ASIC rigs or pool their resources into mining pools.

            • Mining rewards per block: 6.25 LTC
            • Algorithm: Scrypt
            • Hardware: GPU, but ASIC recommended

            Main points:

            • Established longevity as one of the first altcoins.
            • ASIC rigs and mining pools significantly improve profitability.

            4) Zcash (ZEC)

Zcash is a private crypto built on the code of Bitcoin, with a capped supply and halving events. Although it is possible for GPUs to mine ZEC, ASICs are profitable as the community voted against having ASIC resistance in 2021.

            • Mining rewards per block: 1.5625 ZEC
            • Algorithm: Equihash
            • Hardware: GPU, but ASIC recommended

            Why miners use Zcash:

            • Privacy features.
            • Halving features.
            • Optimal returns with ASIC rigs.

            5) Dogecoin (DOGE)

Initially a meme coin, Dogecoin has become a serious player for mining profit. As 10,000 DOGE is rewarded per block, miners tend to dual mine DOGE with Litecoin because of their identical Scrypt algorithm.

            • Mining rewards per block: 10,000 DOGE
            • Algorithm: Scrypt
            • Hardware: ASIC for solo mining, GPU in pools

            Mining options:

            • ASICs work best for solo mining.
            • GPUs can still be utilized in mining pools.

            6) Dash (DASH)

Dash was designed as a Bitcoin fork aimed at quicker transactions and optional privacy. It is still a viable option for GPU miners, although ASIC enhances profitability. Worth mentioning: Dash experiences reward halvings approximately every 380 days (approximately every 210,240 blocks).

            • Mining rewards per block: 1.91 DASH (halving soon)
            • Algorithm: X11
            • Hardware: GPU, but ASIC recommended

            7) Grin (GRIN)

Released in 2019, Grin is a privacy-oriented coin with a distinctive dual-algorithm configuration. Cuckatoo32+ prefers ASICs, while Cuckaroo29 is ASIC-resistant and can be mined with GPUs.

            • Mining rewards per block: 60 GRIN
            • Algorithm: Cuckatoo32+ (ASIC) and Cuckaroo29 (GPU)
            • Hardware: GPU or ASIC, depending on algorithm

            Why miners prefer Grin:

            • Flexibility of both ASICs and GPUs.
            • Privacy-oriented and censorship-resistant.
            • Appealing to smaller miners testing algorithms.

            8) Ravencoin (RVN)

            • Mining rewards per block: 2,500 RVN
            • Algorithm: KAWPOW
            • Hardware: CPU or GPU (ASIC-resistant)

Ravencoin came into the picture to make it easier to issue and transfer tokens. Its ASIC-resistant KAWPOW algorithm makes it suitable for home miners with CPUs or GPUs.

            Advantages of RVN mining:

            • Available for small-scale miners.
            • Easy tokenization.

            9) Vertcoin (VTC)

            • Mining rewards per block: 12.50 VTC
            • Algorithm: Lyra2RE(v3)
            • Hardware: CPU or GPU (ASIC-resistant)

Vertcoin is another Bitcoin variant that prioritizes decentralization through anti-ASIC resistance. That makes it viable for home miners using GPUs or CPUs. However, its block reward went from 12.5 VTC to 6.25 VTC in December 2025.

            Why look at Vertcoin:

            • ASIC-resistant, great for small miners.
            • Halving last year triggered fears of profitability.

            10) Ethereum Classic (ETC)

            • Mining rewards per block: 2.048 ETC
            • Algorithm: Etchash
            • Hardware: GPU, but ASIC recommended

The 2016 hard fork of Ethereum created Ethereum Classic as a consequence of the DAO hack. Unlike Ethereum, ETC is staying on proof-of-work mining and will not be switching to proof-of-stake.

            ETC mining facts:

            • Lower difficulty than pre-Merge Ethereum.
            • Viable on GPUs, though ASIC rigs provide more profit.

Factors to Consider When Mining Crypto in 2026

            • Profitability: Consider block reward, difficulty, and coin price dynamics.
            • Accessibility: ASIC-resistant coins (such as Monero, Ravencoin, and Vertcoin) are more accessible to small miners.
            • Sustainability: Mining is energy-intensive, so efficiency and renewable energies are important.
            • Privacy and Security: Coins such as Monero, Zcash, and Grin provide greater anonymity.
            • Market Trends: Consider demand and long-term growth opportunities.
