Wormhole advanced 56% and is trading at $0.02252 today. This token rally is driven by a 25% single-day advance that took daily trading turnover above the asset’s circulating market valuation. Supported by 24-hour W trading volume reaching roughly $155 million, the move lifted the token to rank 169 on CoinMarketCap with a market capitalization of $149 million, even as spot levels remain roughly 98% below its April 2024 launch price. While the Wormhole (W) crypto surge gained pace following ecosystem integrations on its Sunrise gateway, the foundation has made no official announcement tied to the price jump.
What Does Wormhole Do?
Wormhole operates as a decentralized interoperability protocol that enables arbitrary messaging and asset transfers across disparate layer-1 and layer-2 blockchains. Core contributors developed Sunrise, an institutional and retail liquidity gateway launched in November 2025, designed specifically to bridge assets from external blockchains directly onto Solana.

Sunrise Gateway Integration on October 4
Sunrise expanded its cross-chain routing on 4 October 2026 by adding Shiba Inu (SHIB) to Solana, following September integrations for Dogecoin (DOGE) and Pepe (PEPE). Each listing provides large meme coin communities with direct access to Solana decentralized finance (DeFi) applications.
Sunrise has not said which bridging system the SHIB listing uses. It has used more than one in the past, including Wormhole’s own token-transfer system for Dogecoin and PEPE, so the SHIB listing cannot yet be counted as Wormhole traffic.

How Wormhole’s Token Rules Reward Holders
Wormhole rewrote its token rules in late 2025. Protocol revenue now goes into a pool called the Wormhole Reserve, and holders who stake W and take part in governance earn a 4% base yield, paid from existing tokens and future revenue.
The same change replaced large yearly token releases with smaller ones every two weeks, starting in October 2025. Spreading out token releases avoids the sudden supply jumps that yearly unlocks often create.
What Wormhole (W) Traders Should Watch
About $155 million of W was traded in the last 24 hours, slightly more than the token’s entire market value. That is heavy trading, and much of it comes from short-term traders. It is still well below the turnover seen in smaller tokens recently, where daily volume ran several times the market cap.
Supply-side dilution is the secondary factor: with 6.59 billion tokens circulating out of a 10-billion maximum cap, the fully diluted valuation of $225 million sits 50% above circulating market value. The rest will enter the market over time through the two-week release schedule.
The next release is on October 16, when 50.4 million W go to core contributors. At today’s price, that is about $1.1 million, or 0.5% of total supply. Because this release accounts for less than 1% of a single day’s trading volume, it is unlikely to generate material sell-side pressure on its own.
Where Wormhole’s W Stands After a 56% Week
Wormhole’s gateway is adding major coins and its token rules now pay holders who stake. With daily trading volume surpassing total market capitalization and spot prices still consolidating far below their 2024 launch levels, continuation of the uptrend will depend on sustained trading liquidity rather than immediate protocol-level changes.
