Anchorage Digital announced on 21 September 2026 that it has selected LayerZero as its preferred cross-chain interoperability infrastructure provider for stablecoins issued through its federally chartered trust bank. The integration begins with USAT, with plans to expand across additional institutional tokens. Following the announcement, LayerZero ZRO rose 10.5% to $1.53, extending its trailing seven-day gain to 52.79%. Concurrently, market participants are monitoring an upcoming token unlock of approximately $49 million scheduled for 20 October.
What Anchorage and LayerZero Agreed
Stablecoins issued through Anchorage Digital Bank, National Association, will use LayerZero’s cross-chain infrastructure across Ethereum, EVM-compatible networks and Solana. Anchorage Digital stablecoins remain the bank’s regulated responsibility, while LayerZero supplies the messaging and token infrastructure connecting the chains they run on.
Anchorage Digital Bank is the legal issuer of USAT, not Tether, which is the distinction most coverage blurs. The bank has been supervised by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency since it received a national trust charter in January 2021. The OCC terminated a 2022 compliance consent order against the bank in August 2025.
How the OFT Standard Operates
LayerZero’s OFT standard (Omnichain Fungible Token) enables token deployers to issue and maintain a unified, non-dilutive asset supply across multiple independent ledgers without relying on wrapped intermediaries or third-party liquidity pools:
By deploying via the OFT standard, token issuers retain direct administrative authority over their on-chain contracts, choose specific deployment endpoints, and configure custom Decentralized Verifier Networks (DVNs) to validate cross-chain messaging packets. LayerZero reports that its protocol spans over 170 blockchains and has routed more than $280 billion in cumulative lifetime transfer volume.
Network Footprint: Infrastructure Capability vs Live Rollouts
While the LayerZero protocol can connect to more than 170 blockchains, each token implementation requires deliberate deployment and parameter configuration. Consequently, supporting cross-chain functionality does not imply immediate availability across all connected networks.
Only USAT is confirmed so far. Western Union’s USDPT, OSL Group’s USDGO and Falcon Finance’s fUSD are named in the announcement, but LayerZero has published no activation dates, destination chains or contract addresses for any of them. USDGO has passed $1 billion in market value since launching in February, so the volumes waiting on those routes are real.
Protocol Catalysts: ATLAS and Zero Layer-1 Expectations
ZRO’s weekly gain of 52.79% reflects more than one announcement. LayerZero unveiled ATLAS on 25 August, an exchange engine built on its Zero blockchain that routes 75% of post-venue trading fees into buying and burning ZRO, after venue rebates of 20% to 65% based on how much ZRO a venue stakes.
The top rebate tier requires staking up to 1% of total supply. Zero, the layer-1 announced in February with Citadel Securities, DTCC, Intercontinental Exchange, ARK Invest and Google Cloud, is still slated for this fall, with ZRO as its gas and staking token. Neither ATLAS nor Zero has launched.
Upcoming Supply Schedule: The October 20 Token Unlock
About $49 million of ZRO unlocks on 20 October. At $1.53 that is roughly 32 million tokens, close to 8.5% of the 376.97 million currently circulating, against a total supply of 1 billion.
LayerZero ZRO trades at $1.53 with a market value of $578.88 million and $234.3 million of daily volume, equal to 40% of its market capitalization. Turnover that high means the market can absorb supply while interest holds, and thins out when it does not.
FAQs
1. What did Anchorage Digital and LayerZero announce?
Anchorage Digital named LayerZero its preferred interoperability partner for stablecoins issued through Anchorage Digital Bank on 21 September. Tether’s USAT is the first token to use LayerZero’s OFT standard, with USDPT, USDGO, and fUSD expected to follow on dates that have not been announced.
2. Who issues USAT?
Anchorage Digital Bank, National Association, is the legal issuer of USAT, not Tether. The bank operates under Office of the Comptroller of the Currency through a national trust charter granted in January 2021 and publishes monthly reserve attestations for the token.
3. What is the OFT standard?
The Omnichain Fungible Token (OFT) standard uses native mint-and-burn mechanics to transfer assets across different blockchains. This approach preserves a unified global token supply without wrapping tokens or relying on isolated secondary liquidity pools.
4. When does the next ZRO unlock happen?
The next scheduled token unlock is set for 20 October 2026, releasing approximately 32 million ZRO valued near $49 million at current spot prices, which constitutes roughly 8.5% of the circulating token supply.
