Trade Brief · XAG
August 13, 2026 · 3 min read · Futures
What's Happening
Silver's daily range has widened, and three straight sessions have covered roughly a full Average True Range (ATR). For futures traders, that changes the setup. The tradeable opportunity, and the risk, is increasingly in the size of the daily swing rather than trying to predict its direction.
XAG is currently around $64.91 (₹6,190), with the latest 24-hour range at $64.36–$66.58 (₹6,138–₹6,350). Silver also traded in a wide $63.02–$66.04 range on August 10, while August 12 saw a $64.73–$66.76 range.
That is what a high-ATR regime looks like in practice: larger daily moves, faster changes in momentum and more room for both upside and downside swings. Silver has also climbed for eight of the past 11 sessions, with futures settling at $65.555 on August 12, keeping the metal firmly in an active trading phase.

Two Scenarios
If XAG holds above $64.36 (₹6,138) while the daily range remains elevated, buyers could push the metal back towards $66.58 (₹6,350). A sustained move through that level would keep the recent wide-range momentum intact.
If XAG slips below $64.36 (₹6,138), the same expanded daily range could work in the opposite direction. A break of support would put $63.00 (₹5,994) on the radar as the next level traders may watch.
The One Thing Driving This
The key story for XAG right now is not simply that silver has been moving higher. It is that the daily swing has become unusually large. Three consecutive sessions covering roughly a full ATR tell futures traders that volatility is doing much of the work.
In this kind of environment, a trader does not necessarily need to decide whether silver is going up or down before recognising the opportunity. The important signal is that the market is providing a much larger daily range to work with and that range can move quickly in either direction. ATR is specifically used to measure an asset's trading-range volatility, with higher readings indicating larger typical moves.
For now, the simplest read is: watch the range before chasing the direction.
